More than a BBQ, it’s mates looking out for mates.

Racing Mates community BBQs are about bringing the racing industry together in a relaxed and welcoming environment where people can connect, check in and support one another.

Whether you are dealing with stress, financial pressure, burnout, mental health struggles, family challenges, injury, isolation or simply feeling overwhelmed. You do not have to carry it alone. In racing, there has long been a culture of “just tough it out,” but Racing Mates is helping change that conversation.

It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to ask for help.

From trainers and jockeys to stable staff, track riders and racing participants across NSW, Racing Mates is here to remind everyone that support is available, conversations matter, and seeking help is a sign of strength not weakness.

Because no matter what you are facing, there is always a mate ready to listen.

Stronger together through honest conversations and peer support

Racing Mates BBQ get-together at Hawkesbury Race Club with Digby Nuthall and Matt Vella, sharing honest conversation over a good feed about the long hours, pressure and realities of working in the racing industry with people who truly understand the grind.

In a high-performance, high-demand industry like racing, peer support is protective. It builds psychological safety, reduces isolation and helps people stay connected before stress becomes overwhelm. Racing Mates believes the strongest support often comes from those closest to the work, the mate beside you who notices the change, checks in and understands without needing everything explained.

When we look out for each other, we don’t just support wellbeing—we strengthen safety, performance and the culture of our sport.
